If you love great steaks but you don’w want to compromise on style then the new CAU restaurant might be your next favourite Argentinian restaurant in London. Although I absolutely adore proper steak houses where they use only the best of grass-fed British meat, I also love treating myself to a tasty Argentinian steak. It is not a secret to anyone that Argentina beef meat is worldly considered to be one of the finest meats. Meat lovers and connoisseurs seek proper Argentinian restaurants all over the world and, to be honest, I do too.
I have been trying the most popular (and unpopular) Argentinian steak houses in London like Gaucho, Buenos Ayres and Constancia as well as beautiful British ones like Hawksmoor, Barbecoa and Smiths amongst others and after trying CAU I was so impressed I needed to share my experience with you all.
CAU standing for Carne Argerntina Unica is not a family owned single restaurant but a chain of classy Argentinian restaurants, you can find other locations on their website CAU. For instance, CAU has recently opened its first London restaurant in one of the most iconic and romantic locations ever, in Saint Katherine’s Docks a step away from the Tower of London and London Bridge.
To me, CAU is a revelation and has now become one of my regular restaurants in London. I love the fact that I get it all in one place: stylish venue, high-end service, extraordinary second to none steaks, a large food and wine menu and the most romantic views in London. What else can I ask for?
CAU can be the perfect restaurant for a special occasion or for a romantic dinner but it can also be a well spotted on venue for a meal with friends and family (specially those that love huge tasty steaks and good wine, hey guys??). By now, you must be thinking that all these attractive features must come with a high price and so I was before going, purely because of the location and the overall look of the venue but surprisingly, CAU’s philosophy is to deliver the highest meat quality at a “very” reasonable price and that is why CAU has now made my personal top London restaurants list
Basically, I would highly recommend CAU in Saint Katherine’s docks to anyone that is looking for an amazing modern venue with views. If you want to impress your loved one or your friends, this is your secret card! Nerveless, if you want to eat top-notch Argentinian grilled to perfection steaks then, of course, don’t hesitate one second to book a table at CAU!
For your information, CAU offers breakfast and brunch, lunch and dinner. One of the facts that make me love this restaurant so much is that their food menu is quite large and not only limited to meat lovers. In fact, CAU is a modern Buenos Aires inspired restaurant where Italian and Spanish influences come all together to create an eclectic and vibrant menu where everybody can find something to like.
The starters choice is great! The “empanadas” is one of their most popular starters but don’t underestimate plates like “croquetas” or “calamari”. However in my case, if I know I am going to be ordering a massive steak I rather skip starters and dive directly into my beautiful “lomito” and then later on, to finish my Argentinian Malbec wine, I would order a delicious home-made dessert.
The steaks’s choice is to die for but let me tell you that their burgers are something you must experience before leaving London… trust me.
But if you don’t feel like a steak (who doesn’t?) CAU offers nice alternatives like “Fideua” (fish Spanish specialty), chicken, the catch of the day and many more.
To my surprise, the desserts menu is also very complete. I must confess that I often get frustrated when Argentinian steak houses only suggest plain desserts like their home-made ice-creams or “dulce de leche”‘ plain variations. If you have a sweet tooth then don’t skip their delicious desserts menu. I tried their baked cheese-cake with caramelized banana and “dulce de leche” (caramel like)… it is so good I can help to order the same every time at eat there!
In terms of wine their wine list is divine, especially if you love red wine. They specialize in Argentinian wines and even the cheapest of the list will charm any French wine connoisseur (yes, well… I must confess I got charmed myself!). Prices are more than reasonable for such quality drinks (you will also find top-notch milk-shakes, lemonades, softels and so much more and all cheaper than at other steak houses!)
I have been to CAU 3 times and I can’t fault anything (well, except the bread basket which is quite disappointing). From the service to the location and everything in between, this Argentinean restaurant is one of the most exclusive restaurants I have been to in London combining great prices and a high standard food quality.
Merci et bon appetit les amis!
